Travel Nursing Requirements

What Are the Requirements to be a Travel Nurse?

Many RNs consider becoming a travel nurse a couple of years after graduating from an Accredited Nursing school and having worked in a clinical setting for more than a year. These nurses are eager to embark on a journey and advance their learnings in different clinical settings. Though, many consider traveling after they have been a staff nurse for quite some time and just want a change of pace!

Essential Qualifications

Typically, hospitals require nurses to have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school. However, there are many healthcare facilities that only call for nurses to have an Associates' Degree in Nursing (ADN) as their highest degree requirement.

Ideal Experience

Healthcare systems prefer nurses to have at least one year of experience in a clinical setting under their belt to be considered for a position. Although some specialties require additional certifications and experience in the hospital setting. For example, numerous hospitals require ER nurses to have at least two years of experience in the ER to be considered for a position.
